Hilux New Zealand's Favourite Ute

HILUX NEW ZEALAND'S FAVOURITE UTE

Toyota Hilux - the top-selling light commercial for the past 28 years -is undeniably New Zealanders' favourite truck of all time, and is currently ranked as New Zealand's number one selling vehicle.

Toyota New Zealand's General Manager of Sales and Operations, Steve Prangnell said Toyota's success is strongly linked to Hilux's performance in the marketplace, including a 33 per cent increase in Hilux sales this year to date.

"Hilux recordedmore than40 per cent share of light commercial sales in May, which was the highest sales month for Hilux in the last two years. It's closely linked to the success of our Toyota Fieldays 'Get Tooled Up' offer, where customers have been rushing in to buy a Hilux and get their toolbox. In fact we started to run short of stock in the first month of the campaign," he said.

Year to date, Toyota holds both number one and number two position in total vehicle sales with Hilux first, leading Corolla, in second spot by 12 units.

"Hilux was introduced to New Zealand in 1976 and has become a New Zealand icon. With the unbreakable product heritage, outstanding customer loyalty and the hugely popular television commercials, we have built up a proud legacy which New Zealanders have grown to love - making it undeniably New Zealand's favourite truck of all time," Mr Prangnell said.

Toyota continues to hold a strong market lead over its closest competitors Holden and Ford with a 20.3 per cent market share for the first five months of this year.
