DISCONTINUED MODEL

Land Cruiser 70 V8

As part of the move to reduce carbon emissions, the Land Cruiser 70 will no longer be available with a 4.5L V8 engine or with a manual transmission.

The Land Cruiser 70 will be powered exclusively by the hugely successful 1GD 4 cylinder 2.8L turbo diesel automatic. This powertrain will maintain the towing capability and increase the torque, and offers a better option with a smoother operation and better ride quality. Click to read our media release.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Why is the LC70 V8 being discontinued?

The removal of the V8 powertrain continues Toyota New Zealand’s ongoing push to reduce the emissions profile of vehicles sold in New Zealand whilst ensuring they still meet the needs of everyday Kiwi’s and provide the reliability they’ve always desired. The shift to a more efficient four-cylinder engine also aligns with global trends towards reducing vehicle emissions and improving fuel economy.

2. What’s the alternative as the V8 won’t be around anymore?

The four-cylinder power train is a great alternative. With equal capability and towing capacity, coupled with a smoother ride and lower emissions, this provides a superior alternative and one which we have already seen customers transfer to since the introduction of the 1GD in 2024.
