Innovative 86 RC online experience sees 'clicks meet bricks'

Toyota New Zealand has launched an innovative new way for customers to personalise and order their own unique 86 RC sports coupe within a virtual showroom at www.the86.co.nz, and continue the delivery experience through a Toyota dealer.

The 86 RC (Race Competition), which retails at an affordable online-only base price of just $33,986, gives Kiwi sports car fans the chance to create their own statement with a brand new Toyota 86 ready for customisation; a performance-orientated 'blank canvas' to tune, paint and accessorise in any way desired.

Toyota New Zealand General Manager of Product Planning, Neeraj Lala says, "The 86 sports coupe has enjoyed unparalleled attention across a wide audience since its launch, and the RC allows customers to create an 86 that says something unique about them. Our innovative online customisation process allows customers to see all the options available, giving them the opportunity to create their own personal brand statement.

"Customisation happens across all generations, which is why we've explored an experience that combines both 'clicks' and 'bricks'. While a lot of people still want to see, touch and feel the car in the showroom, a large group of 86 RC customers will do most of their research online before they even come into the dealership. Our innovative website allows customers to build their perfect 86, add factory TRD performance parts and packages, choose a colour and design scheme or select the wheel and tyre combination that suits them best. At the dealership, more local customisation is available before taking delivery of their personalised 86 RC."

Toyota's partnership approach, which bridges the flexibility and convenience of the new virtual online 86 showroom with the brand's extensive New Zealand dealer network, is underlined further once 86 fans venture into their local dealership. There, sales teams will be equipped with comprehensive 86 product knowledge and touch-screen tablet technology to help guide customers through the 86 RC personalisation process if they prefer to follow the process in the comfort of the showroom.

"The world is moving online for research, and our innovative 86 website is an example of the flexibility and choice our customers look for when they're researching and evaluating options," continues Lala.

"But a customer's experiences with a brand like Toyota can't exist solely online. Furthering the knowledge gained on our website with fantastic customer service in the showroom is but one successful component of a lifelong relationship with our customers."

Based on the successful rear-wheel drive 86 sports coupe platform and boasting the same 147kW two-litre four-cylinder format of its 86 and GT86 siblings, the six-speed manual 86 RC strips away the superfluous, presenting the ultimate opportunity for owners to tell the world exactly what they're all about in their own style.

While the 86 RC arrives fitted with 16" machined graphite alloys and a low boot spoiler, it remains a true 'blank canvas' sports car.

Toyota gives owners the ability to choose from an extensive range of colour accent options, sports decal profiles, factory TRD performance components, body kit enhancements and instrumentation. Local and after-market accessories are also available at the dealership, giving sports car fans the ability to own a uniquely styled 86 unlike any other example on New Zealand roads.
