Toyota Prado recall announced in Japan won't affect NZ Prado drivers

Toyota Prado recall announced in Japan won't affect NZ Prado drivers

Toyota Japan's recall of its left hand drive 2010 Prado will not affect New Zealand Prado drivers because the issue does not involve right hand drive models, Toyota New Zealand said today.

Toyota Japan has announced the recall to improve the software of the Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) system in its left hand drive model. This recall is related to the recent sales suspension of the Lexus GX sports utility vehicle in the United States which has many common components with the Prado.

Paul Carroll, General Manager of After Sales for Toyota New Zealand, says the right hand drive Prado model sold in New Zealand is unaffected and will not be recalled.

The left hand drive model has both the driver and the fuel tank on the left side of the vehicle which has resulted in the VSC not engaging fast enough when the vehicle is driven fast into right hand turns. The right hand drive vehicles are not affected due to a better weight balance.
