Toyota Prius braking performance - clarification regarding recall status

Toyota Prius braking performance - clarification regarding recall status

Toyota New Zealand CEO Alistair Davis has been reported in some media as saying the 2009 Prius is being recalled for changes to improve braking feel. This is not correct. While minor changes have been made to new vehicles produced from January this year, no decision has yet been made on the need for a recall on vehicles already built.

"The issue is still under study in Japan" said Mr Davis. "While we understand this split second delay in pedal feel could be disconcerting for some drivers, it only happens in rare circumstances and drivers will easily compensate by pushing harder on the pedal - something that is a natural reaction. However we want to give customers the very best driving experience so we are considering whether we should bring existing cars back to the Dealer for this minor change. We have already written to customers explaining the current position, and once we have further advice from Japan we will contact them again."
