Small Business Driver: Portstone Garden Centre

portstone-garden-centre_HERO_940x450

Family owned and operated plant business, Portstone Garden Centre, gave away the majority of their bedding plants before the March lockdown, as a morale booster for their valued customers. This is exactly the kind of behaviour that makes the Christchurch business so deserving of the Toyota Highlander they received through the Small Business Driver initiative, which is helping them to get back on their feet after a series of financial setbacks.

Established in 1981, Portstone Garden Centre has always prioritised exceptional customer service, and pride themselves on their experienced and knowledgeable team of staff. The Garden Centre offers a diverse range of shrubs, fruit trees, bedding, vegetable seeds, herbs, pots and planters, and has an on-site café and gift shop – making it a popular coffee spot for locals.

Portstone Garden Centre, like many Christchurch businesses, was also affected dramatically by the 2010 earthquake. Now facing its second crisis in a decade, the team are optimistic about the Centre’s future, especially now the Toyota Highlander has joined the family. The Highlander enables Portstone Garden Centre to be able to offer free deliveries to their predominantly elderly customer base, who often struggle to visit their store due to mobility issues but who still love to get outside and maintain a passion for gardening.

If you’re ever in need of quality plants from the Christchurch region, or would just like to stop in for a coffee and visit the Portstone Garden Centre’s café, visit them online for directions: https://www.portstone.co.nz/
