New Camry Hybrid Pitches Power and Packaging

Perennially popular with fleet and private buyers alike, Toyota’s Camry and Camry Hybrid sedans have received a wholesale redesign for 2015.

A completely new exterior look, interior upgrades and the addition of the all new Camry Atara and Hybrid Atara S, make the 2015 Camry line-up the most comprehensively packaged yet. The Hybrid specific range nows includes the GL, new Atara S and the flagship Atara SL.

“Hybrid technology is becoming an ever-more commonplace solution for both fleet customers and private buyers alike,” says Steve Prangnell, Toyota New Zealand General Manager of Sales and Operations.

“With increased specification and choice, matched with Toyota’s proven hybrid drive technology, we will successfully build on the customer-driven reputation of this car’s predecessor.”

The Camry Hybrid range features redesigned bonnet, grille and front fenders, along with sleek new Halogen headlight clusters. All models now boast standard LED Daytime Running Lights for improved safety, newly designed rear combination tail lights and grade-specific bright or smoked chrome boot garnish.

In fact, the exterior updates to the 2015 Camry range are so comprehensive that only the roof panel remains unchanged from the previous generation vehicle.

Inside the cabin, Camry Hybrid drivers will note updated seat fabrics in all grades, new two-ring optitron meters in the instrument cluster augmented with a new 4.2” TFT Multi-Information Display, brushed metal and wood accents (on Hybrid Atara S and Hybrid Atara SL grades respectively), as well as a newly designed three-spoke steering wheel featuring Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio controls.

The newly added Camry Hybrid Atara S offers higher grade interior fabric and trim detailing from the GL variant, a powered driver seat with adjustable powered lumbar support (perfect for owners who spend a lot of their working week behind the wheel) and a six-speaker DLX Display Audio system. Premium 17” ten spoke alloy wheels and rear parking sensors are also standard specification on the Atara SL.

“Adding more depth to the Camry Hybrid range is a clear signal to our customers that Toyota New Zealand remains serious about introducing all the benefits of hybrid drive technology to an even greater audience,” continues Mr. Prangnell.

“In 2014 we sold 275 Camry Hybrid vehicles to a mix of fleet and private buyers; in fact more private buyers opted for Camry Hybrid models than non-hybrids last year, which tells us our customers are increasingly comfortable owning and running advanced hybrid technology and are looking to reap the fuel efficiency rewards it offers.”

Every Camry features revised and improved specification highlights for 2015, but perhaps none more so than the range-topping Camry Hybrid Atara SL.

The Camry Hybrid Atara SL provides the perfect middle ground for private buyers and fleet managers alike looking for executive transport and premium levels of fit and finish, yet a car which still offers all the practicality and world class efficiency of a hybrid powertrain.

Premium standard specification in the Camry Hybrid Atara SL includes rain sensing wipers, halogen headlamps featuring automatic high beam, an electro-chromatic inside rear vision mirror and reverse tilt outside rear vision mirrors with memory settings, stainless steel scuff plates, wood panel accents and leather trimmed seats and armrest, powered driver and front passenger seats, a powered back window shade and a premium quality JBL ten-speaker audio system with inbuilt navigation.

The Camry Hybrid features a 2.5-litre four cylinder VVT-I engine with hybrid drive. This fuel efficient powertrain, developed by one of the world’s most experienced hybrid engine manufacturers, offers up combined power of 151kW and is paired with an Electronically Controlled Variable Transmission (E-CVT).

Combined fuel consumption of 5.2-litres/100km for Camry Hybrid GL, Hybrid Atara S and Hybrid Atara SL highlights Toyota’s ability to engineer comfortable, spacious executive level motoring that remains steadfastly economic to run and own.

Every Camry packs a raft of standard and grade-specific safety equipment, including standard reversing camera technology with moving guidelines on the Atara SL and static guidelines for all other models, as well as a suite of seven airbags, including driver and front passenger, driver’s knee, front seat side and curtain airbags.

All grades also feature a comprehensive array of technologically advanced driver aids designed to help keep the Camry driver out of harm’s way. In addition to ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) and TRC (Traction Control), VSC (Vehicle Stability Control), EBD (Electronic Brake-force Distribution) and BA (Brake Assist) are all standard features.

Lane Departure Alert, Blind Spot Detection and Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and Toyota’s intelligent Pre-Crash safety system are also included within the suite of safety equipment in the Camry Hybrid Atara SL.

The versatile and efficient 2015 Camry Hybrid range is available at Toyota dealers nationwide from July 1st, 2015.
