The All New Hilux – Safety

With its 5-Star ANCAP Safety Rating and next-level technology, the all new Hilux takes your safety seriously.

The all new Hilux is not only built to tackle the tough stuff on and off-road, it also has extra features to help you do what you need to do, safely.

VSC or ‘Vehicle Stability Control’ is one of the most important bits of safety tech you can have. That’s why you’ll find it on every new Hilux. VSC helps stabilise the vehicle, giving you more control in emergency situations. It works by detecting if the vehicle is starting to skid, slide, or abruptly change direction, and then helping the driver maintain control by reducing engine power and controlling the brakes.

All new Hilux models feature Traction Control, however 4WD variants further benefit with the addition of A-TRAC or ‘Active Traction Control’. A-TRC works when 4WD is selected and constantly monitors all four wheels while you drive. If it senses any wheel spin which could lead to a loss of traction, A-TRAC employs the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) to reduce wheelspin and transfer drive to the wheel with the most traction to help you out of sticky situations.

Because there’s often the need to tow a load, Trailer Sway Control (TSC) is used to help keep the trailer swinging from side to side. It does this by providing appropriate braking and reduces engine power, if needed. It’s a reassuring thing to have when the loads are big, or the winds are high.

Reversing cameras now come standard on all models fitted with a wellside, to give you an even better view of what’s going on behind you. It’s a particularly important safety feature on higher utes like Hilux 4WDs and 2WD PreRunners.

Hilux doesn’t skimp on airbags either, with air bags to protect the driver and passengers, and includes the all-important side-curtain and drivers’ knee bags.

All seats front and back get 3-point belts, while ISOFIX is standard in all double cabs, so you can quickly secure the kid’s seats in the back without any hassle.

So there’s a quick overview of the safety for the new Hilux. It’s one of the Hilux’s key strengths, with enough technology to keep you and your passengers safe, on and off-road.
