The unrivalled ground clearing performance of the largest Toyota Land Cruiser has been met with a bold new design, cutting-edge technology and advanced safety features.
The reshaped grille, bumper, headlights and bonnet provide a dynamic look with improved posture. New LED tail light clusters complement the changes at the front.
In the cabin of the VX Limited, a new rear seat entertainment system with dual 11.6” monitors, which includes two infrared wireless headphones, allow users to tune into a different audio track or DVD sound from what the front seat occupants might be listening to.
The new Toyota Safety Sense package features in the Land Cruiser 200 for the first time consisting of the Pre-Crash Safety System, Pre-Crash Brake, automatic high beam headlamps, dynamic radar cruise control and lane keep assist. The Land Cruiser 200 also gains a Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Emergency Stop Signal.
The engine now produces 200 kW and has an improved overall combined fuel consumption of 9.5 litres/100 kms. The addition of a diesel particulate filter has contributed to the Land Cruiser 200 achieving EURO 5 standard for emissions.
Backed by 60 years of development and rugged use around the world, the Land Cruiser 200 still has the go anywhere, do anything pedigree of its predecessors.
The four wheel drive system has high and low ratios which are accessed through a rotary dial in the cabin. A Torsen limited slip centre differential feeds power to the front and rear axles with the aid of the six speed automatic transmission with sequential manual operation.
The Land Cruiser 200 features CRAWL Control which acts as an ‘off-road cruise control system’ through managing the engine and brakes, maintaining a low and uniform speed and minimises damage to the drive-train and terrain.
Combined with Hill-start Assist Control, which stops the Land Cruiser from rolling unintentionally when starting on a hill, and Down-hill Assist Control, which is designed to keep the vehicle at a low and constant speed during a steep off-road descent, deliver maximum stability leaving the driver to concentrate on steering.
All models are also fitted with a multi-terrain select with automatic mode to alter the 4WD system’s operation to best suit the ground being covered.
The Land Cruiser 200 has similar suspension to that used in its smaller sibling, the Prado, with double wishbones and a stabiliser bar at the front and a 4-link coil springs and a stabiliser bar at the rear.
On the VX Limited, Toyota’s Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS) is fitted to the stabiliser bars to adjust their tension with hydraulic cylinders. Rigidity is improved for on road performance, while more wheel articulation is allowed off road for better traction.
The Land Cruiser 200 sits on newly designed 18” alloy wheels with 285/60R18 tyres and a full sized spare wheel is standard.
Safety features include ABS brakes with brake assist and electronic brakeforce distribution. There is vehicle stability control; active traction control and trailer sway control. The Land Cruiser 200 has a 3500kg braked tow rating.
The VX grade offers eight seats while the VX Limited offers seven - all seats have emergency locking retractor three point seatbelts. Both grades have ten airbags including driver and front passenger front, knee and side airbags. There are side airbags for the second row outer seats and curtain shield airbags cover all three rows.
The Land Cruiser has a five star ANCAP safety rating.
Both Land Cruiser models – VX and VX Limited - have keyless entry remote control central locking with push button start and retractable exterior rear vision mirrors.
There is a leather covered steering wheel with audio, MID and Bluetooth voice control controls. The steering column is electronically tilt and telescopic adjustable.
There are split folding second and third row seats, four-zone climate control air conditioning, and three power outlets. The multi-function information display screen is used for the Satellite Navigation, reverse camera, nine speaker audio system and economy/trip computer.
A leather option pack is available for the VX grade which includes KDSS, a memory package (door mirrors, driver’s seat and steering column), a powered upper back door leather seat trim, and driver and front passenger seats receive eight-way powered adjustment and ventilation and active headrests. Front and second row seats are heated. There are also additions to the illuminated entry system, LED interior lamps and a wireless charger.
The VX Limited model gains a sunroof, cool box, power operated front seats with heating and ventilation, driver’s side memory and a tyre pressure warning system.
