Emirates Team New Zealand for 20 years
Toyota New Zealand salutes and congratulates its 20-year partner Emirates Team New Zealand, which launched its new AC72 catamaran to challenge for the 2013 America's Cup on Saturday.
The impressive new cat, with a 40m wingsail larger than a Boeing 747 wing, demonstrates how far technology and the team have come since Toyota New Zealand started supporting Team New Zealand in 1992.
Toyota New Zealand General Manager of Marketing, Neeraj Lala, says Toyota is proud to be the only major sponsor to have stayed loyal to Team New Zealand for the past two decades.
"It is great to see Emirates Team New Zealand's continued emphasis on tenacity, improving every day, and design innovation, in pursuit of its goal to win the next America's Cup," says Neeraj Lala.
"Saturday's event showed there is still strong public interest among Kiwis for the America's Cup. New Zealanders have got behind their team from the outset, and joined in the highs and lows they have experienced over the years in this ever-evolving sailing competition."
Neeraj Lala says Kiwis have come to believe that despite being a small country, the support of key sponsors such as Toyota means Emirates Team New Zealand is capable of taking on - and beating - the world's best.
"The 20-year relationship between Toyota and Team New Zealand has forged a bond which is well beyond a simple sponsorship," says Neeraj Lala.
"Toyota is excited to be supporting the team's latest campaign. We are sure they have what it takes to bring home the Cup again."
