Toyota adds Vehicle Stability Control to New Zealand's favourite ute

New Zealand's top-selling ute for the last 28 years - the Toyota Hilux - is now even better thanks to the addition of Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) on selected models.

Hilux 4WD double cab SR5 models produced since August - and now available in Toyota dealerships - include the standard fitment of VSC and Traction Control (TRC).

Toyota New Zealand General Manager of Sales and Operations, Steve Prangnell said "Hilux has been New Zealand's favourite truck for an impressive 28 years and has been the number one selling vehicle overall for seven of the last 12 months."

"We're proud of this result, and believe that by adding vehicle stability control progressively across the range, we'll continue to deliver the best ute for Kiwi drivers."

Vehicle stability control helps the driver maintain control by automatically adjusting engine output and the braking force to each wheel to help prevent oversteer or understeer.

Traction control limits wheel spin when starting off or accelerating on slippery roads.

In low range off-road conditions, the Traction Control system brakes any spinning wheel, ensuring power is delivered to the wheel with adequate grip. Unlike on-road Traction Control, the engine power is not reduced and the vehicle can extract itself from mud with ease.

Along with the VSC and TRC addition, Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA) have been added to the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS).

Further improving the 4WD double cab SR5's safety credentials are larger front brakes.

To accommodate the larger brakes and add further to the safety of Hilux SR5, 17" alloy wheels replace the SR5's previous 15" alloys. Fitted with 265/65 tyres, these 6-spoke wheels give Hilux a more assertive look. A matching full sized 17" alloy spare wheel is standard.

The 4WD double cab SR5 is powered by a 126kW and 343Nm 3.0L turbo charged common rail diesel engine with the choice of either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission.

The recommended retail price for the manual transmission model is $60,390 while the automatic transmission model is $62,890.
