New Hoops, Big Smiles at Porirua School
Published 1 August 2025
The first set of brand-new basketball hoops is officially up and in action at Porirua School – and the excitement from the tamariki is contagious!
This project is part of the Wellington Saints’ Courts in Schools initiative, and it’s awesome to see the hoops up and already being put to great use. With the Saints taking a moment out of their grand final prep to support the next generation of hoopers, the impact on the community is already clear.
A huge shoutout goes to Greg Hart and the Hire Pool Kapiti team for supplying the auger and concrete saw – completely free of charge, to help install the new hoops. Greg even stayed for the day to lend a hand. What a legend!
Seeing the smiles as the first shots went up made every effort worthwhile. And this is just the beginning, with more hoops and more opportunities for local kids to get active still to come.
A special thank you also to our friends at Porirua School for the incredible handmade cards, an amazing way to celebrate this milestone together. Here’s to more hoops, more play, and more community wins in Porirua!
