GR Yaris Aero Performance Package Brings Track-Focused Engineering to Kiwi Drivers

Toyota New Zealand today announced the local release of the GR Yaris Aero Performance Package under its GAZOO Racing (GR) banner - the first performance package offered beyond the standard GR Yaris specification.

Developed through thousands of hours of motorsport testing, breaking, rebuilding on the racetrack and direct feedback from GR Master Drivers, the Aero Performance Package brings rally-bred capability, airflow management and stability to drivers looking for more genuine control.

Toyota New Zealand Chief Strategic Officer Andrew Davis says the GR Yaris with Aero Performance Package has been developed with drivers firmly in mind, reflecting the brand’s belief that performance should be felt, not just measured.

“GR has always been about how a car performs and how it makes you feel when you’re behind the wheel. Every element of this package exists for a reason, shaped by performance on the track and refined through real driver feedback.”

Developed under GAZOO Racing’s “no more boring cars” philosophy championed by Toyota Chairman Akio Toyoda, the package builds on the GR Yaris’ motorsport foundations.

The Aero Performance Package comprises six functional aerodynamic components including a variable rear spoiler, fender ducts, front lip spoiler, rear bumper ducts, full‑floor undercover and hood bulge. These have been developed to enhance airflow, stability and overall control. A new performance-orientated steering wheel has also been introduced across all grades, further enhancing the driving experience by providing more direct feedback at the wheel.

Together, these changes allow drivers to exert a more active influence over how the car behaves - moving beyond fixed, preconfigured upgrades, while preserving the car’s lightweight, responsive character.

“This package brings motorsport insight directly from Japan’s one-make racing series to the road. It’s about creating a car that feels alive. One that makes you want to keep driving, keep learning, and stay connected to what the car is doing beneath you.”

Andrew believes this is a great example of a vehicle that shows exactly what the GR brand has set out to do.

“GR is not just a badge, it’s a statement. It exists for drivers who value connection, feedback and authenticity, and this vehicle is one of the purest expressions of that philosophy.”

Toyota is continuing to invest across multiple powertrain pathways, with GR playing a distinct and deliberate role within the wider Toyota Motor Company.

“Not every vehicle has to serve the same purpose. GR exists for drivers who want an emotional connection with their car, and the GR Yaris Aero Performance Package delivers an even more focused, rewarding expression of that idea.”

The GR Yaris with Aero Performance Package starts from $61,990 (Toyota Driveaway Price) and is available to pre-order now in New Zealand in limited numbers.
