Toyota Motor Corporation and its distribution groups around the South Pacific including Toyota New Zealand, are combining efforts to support tsunami relief in Tonga with a total donation of $260,000 through UNICEF to immediately support affected communities.

The combined donation is comprised of grants provided by Toyota New Zealand, Toyota Motor Corporation Australia, Toyota Tsusho South Pacific Holdings Pty Ltd and Toyota Tsusho Papua New Guinea to create ‘One Toyota Oceania’.

Toyota New Zealand will donate $10,000 of the total sum to support the rescue and relief program in the island nation.

“As we see the very real and devastating aftermath in Tonga from the eruption of Hunga-Tonga-Hunga-Ha’apai, we would like to express our deepest sympathies to all those affected by the volcanic eruption and tsunami in Tonga,” says Neeraj Lala, Toyota New Zealand Chief Executive.

“With communications, infrastructure and food crops severely damaged, there is urgent need for water and emergency food supplies. Our emergency grant will help our neighbouring whānau in Tonga with much needed relief.”

Similarly to earthquake disaster relief in New Zealand, Toyota New Zealand’s donation to Tongan disaster relief is provided through its rescue and relief programme.
