2020 Sustainability Report

SDR-930x500

Toyota New Zealand has a long-standing commitment to sustainability, and we are proud of the progress we have made so far. We also recognise the increasing pressure of environmental and social concerns, and that our sustainability and business ambitions are increasingly converging.

As a major global and local brand, Toyota has a large environmental and social footprint. Their scale and complexity throughout our business relationships are a serious challenge. We believe that addressing our impacts presents an opportunity to contribute to the change we want to see, and to influence and raise the bar on the performance of the wider motor vehicle industry and its supply chain.

For the past six years we have produced a Toyota New Zealand Sustainability Report annually on our business impacts and performance. Prior to this our Reports were produced biennially; they date back to 2005.

We continue to improve these Reports and this year we have a fully digital report online.

Toyota New Zealand’s (TNZ’s) commitment to sustainability is reflected in Toyota’s global vision, launched in March 2011. We want to continue to lead the drive towards more sustainable ways of mobility by working with all stakeholders to develop products and services that enrich customers’ lives and make them smile.

The report provides stakeholders with a snapshot of our progress. Supporting commentary on context and how we manage our operations is separated, with links to relevant data and case studies.

The report covers Toyota New Zealand’s activities and those of the Toyota and Lexus retail network in New Zealand where relevant. It does not include the operations of Toyota Financial Services New Zealand, which is a separate entity owned by Toyota Motor Corporation, Japan.

We’ve prepared the report in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative Sustainability Reporting Standards: Core option. We reference the six goals outlined in the Toyota Environmental Challenge 2050 and the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals, our reports have been externally assured since 2011, and this year’s assurance statement can be found here.

The report, including evidential stories that have affected our business can be found here. In Toyota New Zealand’s 11th Sustainability Report we cover activities for the period 1 April 2019 to 31 March 2020.

Toyota's 11th Sustainability Report is now online and available here.
