Toyota considers seventh America’s Cup campaign

Commenting on today’s announcement that Bermuda is to host the 35th America’s Cup, Toyota New Zealand chief executive Alistair Davis said that the choice of a neutral venue provided some unique opportunities for Toyota as long-time sponsor of Emirates Team New Zealand (ETNZ).

“The prospect of an expanded entry list and improved international telecast arrangement augurs well for the Bermuda regatta to be a genuine global event,” said Mr Davis.

He also looked forward to learning more about the event or events, one of them possibly significant, being planned by the Event Authority and ETNZ.

“As a New Zealand-based company, the possibility of Americas Cup action hosted in Auckland would be a significant positive for local supporters, suppliers and the country as a whole.”

Mr Davis acknowledged that his company had yet to study all the risks and opportunities associated with the venue announcment.

“Our long-time support of ETNZ is based on the positive contribution to the New Zealand economy and we will be analysing ETNZ’s business case for the 35th America’s Cup before committing to a seventh campaign.”
