New Corolla wagon balances style and substance

The new Corolla Wagon's design balances practicality and a spacious cabin with a sportier body style.

The distinctive new front design incorporates a simple single horizontal bar grille design which links with the headlights to form a 'v' shaped outline. A large trapezoid shaped lower grille improves airflow and gives a sporty look.

Multi-reflector halogen headlights are used, with manual headlight levelling available to offset the effect of passengers or luggage load. An aluminium coated style line within the headlights helps to create a unified look with the grille.

Forward visibility has been improved thanks to the adoption of narrower front pillars which have been retracted for a wider panoramic view through the curved windscreen. Redesigning the body coloured outer mirrors has improved cornering visibility, making it easier to see pedestrians and other motorists. Side indicator lights are located on the outside mirrors.

The more acutely angled rear pillar window gives Corolla a sports wagon style, while the integrated rear spoiler adds further appeal.

Light Emitting Diode (LED) rear stop lights illuminate quickly to help warn following drivers, and use less power than conventional bulbs. Thick light guidance lenses change the appearance of the stop lights when illuminated, while the sideways "U" shaped tail lights give a distinctive rear design for Corolla Wagon.

The newly designed 15 inch steel wheel covers have an attractive eight spoke design.

Aerodynamic performance is enhanced by front and rear air spats, rear spoiler, a pagoda roof design with v-shaped grooves and aero stabilising fins on the rear combination lamps and front door panels.

The 2012 Corolla Wagon is available in seven exterior colours: Glacier White, Silver Pearl, Ink, Liquid Bronze and Tidal Blue plus a new Cherry red and Dark Violet.

Corolla Wagon has reduced in length by 60mm to ensure excellent manoeuvrability in tight parking spaces. Due to advanced packaging, the luggage compartment length has increased by 90mm when the rear seats are up, and an impressive 410mm when the rear seats are folded, bringing the total load space length to over two metres.

Up to 407 litres of luggage can be stored with the rear seats up, and 872 litres with the rear seats folded down.

The 2012 Corolla Wagon's interior was designed to create a stylish environment which complements the exterior's active and sporty image.

Corolla Wagon has a black interior colour scheme with blue accents used throughout the cabin to create a modern feel. A blue and black carbon fibre style pattern is used on the instrument panel and door trims.

A wider instrument panel has been designed with an overhang structure to improve cabin space for front occupants. A high quality centre cluster look is achieved by the use of piano black, silver and chrome accents. The newly designed manual air conditioning controls have a smaller diameter, making them easier to use.

A large speedometer is the centrepiece of the Corolla Wagon's meter set. Speed, engine revolution and fuel level information is easily read thanks to a highly legible font and light coloured metal-like background used for each of the combination meter's three rings. The large digital clock is easily seen by the driver or front passenger, and there is a multi-information display to communicate important drive information such as the fuel consumption, cruising range and outside temperature.

CVT models have an 'Eco' driving light to indicate when Corolla Wagon is being driven in a fuel efficient way.

Corolla Wagon's seats feature a sporty black suede-like fabric material with blue accents. New front seat frames improve comfort, while the slimmer seat back helps to enhance the spaciousness of the cabin. A Whiplash Injury Lessening (WIL) concept is adopted to help reduce whiplash injury in a rear end collision.

Front seats have manual slide and recline adjustments, while the driver's seat is also height adjustable, making it comfortable for drivers of many different body shapes.

The 60/40 split folding rear seat has a recline function to improve comfort, while the remote folding mechanism with levers in the luggage area makes it easy to convert Corolla Wagon from carrying up to three passengers to moving cargo. The rear seat folds flat for easy loading and unloading. There are also shopping bag hooks, deck hooks and a retractable luggage cover to keep items organised and out of sight.

Corolla Wagon has a wide collection of storage areas throughout the cabin. The instrument panel hosts a glove box and passenger's side upper storage box with space for one 2L plastic bottle or four 350ml bottles.

There is a slide-type coin holder for the driver. There are two removable cup holders in the front console as well as a storage box for items such as CDs. Each of the front doors has a pocket with space for a 500ml bottle or A4 papers. The centre console box has a fabric covered lid and space for a variety of items plus there is ample space for smaller items between the front seats.
