New Styling and Improved Affordability for 2012 Avensis

Toyota has launched the 2012 Avensis Tourer with new styling from Europe, at a very attractive price that will appeal to fleet buyers and private customers alike.

The new wagon has a bolder and more refined exterior design, as well as interior improvements such as revised seat design and better connectivity. Driving dynamics have also been enhanced, along with improved Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH).

Toyota New Zealand General Manager of Sales and Operations, Steve Prangnell said "This is a significant change for Avensis and customers will enjoy the latest European styling and refinement of the new model."

"Due to exchange rate gains, the new model Avensis saves over $6,400 from the previous model - a great result for customers and one we're really excited about. Avensis can now challenge rivals in the fleet market more effectively with keen pricing to match its European styling and up market specification. At $47,990 we expect Avensis to dominate the Medium 4 wagon segment," said Mr Prangnell.

The Avensis Tourer is available exclusively with a 2.0 litre Valvematic petrol engine and a seven step Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) with sports sequential manual mode. Fuel consumption is just 7.1 litres per 100 kilometres with CO2 emissions of 165 grams per kilometre (EU combined cycle). The 2012 Avensis complies with Euro 5 emission standards.

EXTERIOR

The 2012 Avensis has been redesigned to give a more elegant and athletic appearance.

The bold, more refined frontal treatment features the distinctive new face of the next generation Toyota family. Key to the new design direction is a change in the proportions of the upper and lower grilles, with the emphasis now placed on enlarging the lower grille for a dynamic, more aggressive look.

The front fog lights have been placed at the bumper extremities, giving the 2012 Avensis a wider, more purposeful and ground-hugging appearance.

Narrower, more expressive headlights emphasise the sleek, elegant proportions of the new design. The new headlights incorporate LED daytime running lights, further strengthening the new front treatment.

Using LED technology, the rear combination lights and fog light have been restyled for greater prominence and visibility.

One new exterior colour has been added to the range: Regency Red. Other exterior colours are Glacier White, Silver Pearl, Graphite and Sage.

INTERIOR

The Avensis Tourer's cabin is comfortable, roomy and practical. The 2012 model benefits from improved finishes and upgraded upholstery.

The appearance, touch and feel of the entire instrument panel have been improved. The centre console layout has been redesigned to improve the switchgear layout and operability. The centre console has been improved with a new silver paint finish. Chrome accents have been added to the side air vents.

The tactile quality and feel of frequently handled parts, such as the door trim gripping area, switchgear and the front console all benefit from new, higher quality ornamentation. The driver's instrument dial backlighting has been changed from amber to white with distinctive red needles, and the console box lid features leather trim.

The front seatback side support shape has been redesigned for better lateral holding, to give greater comfort and reduced fatigue, and the seat fabric has been changed. Dual stitching has been added to the front and rear seat main insert for a quality look.

The 543 litre luggage area has been improved with a cargo net and side boards to help secure cargo items. With the rear seats folded down, Avensis has a cargo capacity of 1,609 litres.

The six speaker audio system has been upgraded with a USB port and the addition of Bluetooth audio streaming to the existing Bluetooth handsfree telephone system.

The wireless door locking key has been changed to a flip style key.

RIDE COMFORT / DYNAMICS

Improvements to ride comfort and driving dynamics were fundamental goals in the development of the 2012 Avensis.

The new model benefits from increased body rigidity, improved aerodynamics and Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NHV) insulation. Seat comfort, front and rear suspension and the Electric Power Steering (EPS) system are also improved.

These engineering enhancements deliver greater ride comfort, improved handling agility and a more engaging driving experience.

All Avensis are fitted with an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Traction Control (TRC) and Vehicle Stability Control plus (VSC+). Driver and passenger front, side, driver's knee and front/rear curtain shield airbags are also standard, helping Avensis achieve five stars in Euro NCAP testing.
