New Toyota Yaris sets Benchmark for Design and Value

Toyota has launched the all new Yaris hatchback, with improved styling and performance, innovative packaging and impressive build quality.

Specification and equipment levels have been raised throughout.

Toyota New Zealand's Neeraj Lala said "This is an exciting time for Toyota - the launch of our best ever small car. Following on from the success of the current Yaris, and the Echo before it, we're offering New Zealander's the best combination of design and value in a city-sized package."

"Small vehicles make up around 13 per cent of the New Zealand new vehicle market, attracting cost-conscious buyers and those moving away from larger vehicles. We're confident that this new Yaris will appeal to a broader range of drivers with its blend of value for money features and Toyota's innovative packaging."

This new generation Yaris offers a bold, masculine look with eye-catching exterior styling.

Efficient packaging design sees Yaris gain interior space without sacrificing the compact exterior and nimble handling city drivers require.

"We're blown away by the sense of space inside this new car. There's amble head and legroom for taller occupants, and over 14 litres more luggage space," said Mr Lala.

The new Yaris is available with the choice of two body styles, two VVT-i equipped engines, two transmissions and two model grades: YR and YRS.

The YR three and five door models have a 1.3 litre engine and automatic transmission. The five door variant also offers the choice of manual shift.

YR's key specification improvements over the current 1.3 litre Yaris model are Vehicle Stability Control, larger steel wheels, Multi-Information Display (MID) and improved audio technology with steering wheel mounted controls.

The 1.5 litre five door YRS is available exclusively with an automatic gearbox.

Key specification improvements over the current 1.5 litre model are cruise control, MID (Multi-Information Display), improved audio features, alloy wheels and front fog lights.

The optional Convenience Package allows YRS customers to add automatic climate control air conditioning, auto on and off headlights, two more speakers for a total of six and a 6.1" touch screen display audio unit.

All new Yaris hatch models have nine airbags, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRC), ABS, Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA).

"The current Yaris has been awarded five stars in ANCAP testing, so with the additional safety features built into this new model, we're expecting the full star complement for this model as well," said Mr Lala.

The recommended retail price for the YR three door model with automatic transmission is $23,290 while the five door manual and automatic versions are priced at $23,790 and $25,290 respectively. The YRS model is $27,490 with the Convenience Package option available for an additional $1,700.
