Toyota New Zealand has introduced an innovative Toyota Genuine Part designed to reduce service times and customer costs on constant velocity (CV) joint boot replacement.
Replacing a driveshaft boot is traditionally a labour intensive process which requires removal of the wheel, suspension components and entire drive shaft to enable fitting of a new boot.
The new Toyota genuine split boot allows technicians to replace the original protective rubber boot while leaving all other vehicle parts in place.
As a result, labour time can be reduced from an industry standard of one-and-a-half hours to less than 30 minutes
Toyota New Zealand is the first company to introduce this technology as a genuine replacement part. The technology has been tried and tested over the last 10 years in Japan, where Toyota now fits over 400,000 boots every year.
The new split boot matches original equipment quality and durability, with the addition of an innovative metal reinforced joint so that it can be easily secured over the CV joint without necessitating the removal of any other parts.
Toyota New Zealand's General Manager of After Sales Paul Carroll said "The Toyota genuine split boot is an important innovation, making boot replacement a much easier and quicker job which means the costs to our customers can be reduced."
"It benefits both service workshops and Toyota customers, as vehicles spend significantly less time off the road when a CV joint boot requires attention."
"Workshops will save on labour time and resources, increasing their capacity to service more vehicles, and Toyota owners will have their vehicles back on the road sooner," Mr Carroll said.
Each split boot kit includes easy application CV joint grease, boot lubricant and two clamps to secure the boot to the drive shaft.
Mr Carroll said the simplified fitment of boots paved the way for regular preventative maintenance on CV joints, to prolong the life of these parts which have traditionally been expensive to repair.
The Toyota genuine split boot kit can be ordered from all Toyota dealer parts departments.
