Giddy fastest at Taupo

iddy Taupo pole (940 x 450)

Ajay Giddy claimed a fine pole position for the first race of the day at Taupo as the field got to the business end of the inaugural Toyota 86 Trophy Series.

Giddy has always been fast at the track and despite still being the youngest driver in the Trophy field – as he was in the Bridgestone GR86 field – he proved his class around the 3.3km track with a blistering lap of 1 minute 41.712.

Second fastest was series leader Lee Zeltwanger - less than two tenths of a second behind – while Harry Townshend will line up third alongside Toby Elmiger, quick once again in his Action Motorsport entry.

Corban Sprague has work to do from fifth on the grid for the penultimate race if he is to secure a first race victory on the final day of the series, and he’ll have his mirrors full of Nathan Grammer in the races today, with Grammer only one hundredth of a second behind him in qualifying.

Matt Day was next up – bedding in a new gearbox – and should be one to watch in the races while Mitch Vye was not too far off the overall pace as he made his official series debut in a Right Karts Academy entry.
