Gilchrist, Stewart and Ransley top practice sessions

Peter V (940 x450)

Brock Gilchrist continued his impressive 2019-2020 Best Bars Toyota 86 Championship by opening his 2020 account with fastest lap in the first session of the year at Highlands Motorsport Park.

Jaden Ransley and Campbell Stewart joined him as the initial pace setters and it was Stewart and Ransley who headed the first of two afternoon sessions with Gilchrist fast again in his International Motorsport NEXUS Logistics-backed machine. Also right up there in the second session was young Connor Davison.

Round 1 Pukekohe winner Jaylyn Robotham had a more challenging time, clocking 10th fastest time in the first session and ninth in the second session as he dialled himself in to the challenging twists and turns of the 4km Highlands Park circuit. It all came good for him in the third session in the afternoon, however, with third place as Ransley topped the times ahead of a resurgent Connor Adam.

The Best Bars Toyota 86 Championship field will qualify on Saturday morning and race on Saturday afternoon, with two further races on Sunday.
