Vodanovich Highland fling grabs pole position

Peter Vod pole (940 x 450)

Peter Vodanovich grabbed an impressive pole position for the first race of the weekend at Highlands Motorsport Park in the Best Bars Toyota 86 Championship, with two great qualifying laps early in the session.

Vodanovich - the round winner at the track in 2019 - was first to show in the 20 minute qualifying session in his Nexen DTM supported car with International Motorsport trio Campbell Stewart, Connor Adam, Brock Gilchrist next up with Pukekohe winner and championship leader Jaylyn Robotham sitting in fifth after the first fast lap efforts.

Peter then bettered his lap next time around to dip under 1 minute 54 seconds, a time that proved unbeatable for the remaining 15 drivers over the course of the session. He was joined on the front row by fellow championship contender and experienced Toyota 86 racer Jaden Ransley, who also clocked a great lap early on to end his session just 19 one thousandths of a second behind the pole position holder.

Connor Adam showed he was right back in contention and lead the International Motorsport charge in third place in the Post Haste supported car just a whisker behind Ransley while team mate Campbell Stewart bagged his best starting position of his Toyota 86 career with fourth place on the grid after a solid qualifying run.

Pukekohe round winner Jaylyn Robotham continued to impress with fifth on the grid at another fresh circuit while he was joined on the third row by fellow Aussie Toyota 86 series racer Richard Peasey who had a consistent run to sixth on the grid.

Brock Gilchrist in his NEXUS car and Justin Allen in the Battery Town racer couldn't improve on their early session efforts and eventually lined up seventh and eighth while Connor Davison in the Highlands Motorsport Park car got himself inside the top ten with ninth. CareVets racer Ryan Wood rounded out the top ten.
