Successful test sets up Blincoe for big GT4 weekend

2025-2026 Bridgestone GR86 Championship runner up Zach Blincoe is all set for his debut weekend in the Monochrome GT4 Australia Series at Sydney Motorsport Park this weekend after two successful test days in the GR Supra GT4 EVO2 he will race.

Zach takes the wheel this weekend alongside Danel Frougas in the local Sydney-based GWR Australia team for his prize-winning cameo at Sydney Motorsport Park.

There was a lot to learn during the two days of testing a fortnight ago, but Zach enjoyed getting acquainted with a more powerful, dynamic race car.

“My first Impression of the car was immediately how much better the power and braking performance were along with the grip levels from slick tyres,” he explained. “These were next level from a GR86.

“Learning how to manage the driver assistance systems like traction control and ABS was also a very interesting process for me which I enjoyed and it all means I have a much better understanding of how the car changes and responds with different settings. I had an absolute blast getting to grips with it and gaining confidence.

“I have wanted to drive the Sydney Motorsport Park for a long time and it’s awesome that my Australian debut just happens to be there so that’s a real added bonus for me. 

“The sweeping corners and elevation changes are like nothing I have driven on before. It will definitely be a great track for racing.”

Action at Sydney begins with testing and practice on Friday. Saturday brings two qualifying sessions with the first of two one hour races a twilight race on Saturday evening and the second one on Sunday. It’s a very different looking weekend than a Bridgestone GR86 Championship round, with the most obvious difference being the longer races.  Blincoe, however, isn’t fazed by that.

“I think the knowledge I have gained in GR86 will be crucial for my step into GT4s,” he added.  “I have learnt how important it is to be consistent whilst dragging as much as I possibly can from the car over multiple laps, especially since the races will be longer than I am used to.

As far as predicting results goes, Zach is quietly confident - as he was throughout two impressive years in his GR86.

“Ideally I want to bring home the best possible result I can. The team has proved it has a winning package this season so the ultimate goal would definitely be to bring home some silverware and have no regrets on the opportunity I have been given this weekend.

“I believe that is possible.”
