Top prospect Seewooruthun heading to NZ to start big 2027 season
Exciting single seater prospect Reza Seewooruthun will prepare for a season in FIA F3 by contesting the 2027 Castrol Toyota Formula Regional Oceania Trophy with Rodin Motorsport.
A potential championship contender with Rodin, the 20-year-old from Poole in Dorset in the UK is aiming to fight for the championship and be consistently at the front. Longer term, he has his sights firmly set on succeeding in every pathway single seater series all the way up to Formula One.
The British Racing Drivers Club Rising Stars programme recognised him as one of its 2024 selections – a programme that over the years has selected drivers like Lewis Hamilton – and since then, Seewooruthun has rapidly emerged as one of the UK’s most exciting young racing talents.
He started karting in 2020 during the Covid pandemic and by 2022 was the Junior Rotax English Karting Champion, winning the prestigious ‘E-Plate’. A move to circuit racing and cars later that year immediately yielded impressive results with podium finishes in every race in the Ginetta Junior Winter Series. He stayed in Ginettas for 2023, finishing third overall in a hotly contested championship.
That season, however, he will be best-remembered for an astonishing and history-making weekend at Brands Hatch when he took pole position and won each of the three races, leading every single lap in the process. A move to single seaters was inevitable and for 2024 he joined Hitech GP for a season in the ROKiT British F4 Championship. It was another standout season, with Reza finishing third in the drivers’ Championship and claiming top Rookie honours.
He then moved into the GB3 Championship with Argenti Prema, following valuable winter experience in the Formula Regional Middle East Championship. He finished the season fifth overall, claimed his maiden GB3 victory at the Hungaroring and added several podium finishes, establishing himself as a consistent front-runner.
A move to Formula Regional and the European Championship netted two podium finishes, and Reza will bring that campaign to a close at the iconic Macau Grand Prix in November. It’s experience that will stand him in good stead when he takes to the track in the NZ series’ brand new, second generation, FR car.
He’s delighted that experience will be with Rodin Motorsport as a prelude to his first season in F3 with the team, commenting:
“Making this step with a team I trust means a lot. We’ve built something special together this year and I can’t wait to see what we can achieve next.
“First I’ll wrap up my Formula Regional season at the Macau Grand Prix, then it’s the Formula Regional Oceania Trophy and the 2027 FIA F3 season.”
His 2027 season will begin at the first round in January at the Hampton Downs Motorsport Park in New Zealand’s North Island before heading to nearby Taupo International Motorsport Park for the second round. The Trophy then heads to the South Island for round three at the Teretonga Park before concluding at Highlands and the NZ Grand Prix.
The Trophy itself will once again run as the headline act in NZ’s premier Repco NextGen NZ Motorsport Championship series and the switch to the second-generation FR car in NZ underlines Toyota and GAZOO Racing’s long-standing commitment to the FIA’s single seater pyramid as a logical progression for drivers from FIA-certified Formula 4, through FIA Formula Regional, and on to FIA Formula 3 and beyond. It also ensures the cars and competition remain true to the principles of high-performance, driver-first motorsport.
