British driver Jann Mardenborough has won his first ever single seater race with a flag to flag victory in this morning’s 15 lap race at Levels International Raceway, Timaru.

Mardenborough had served notice of his speed in testing for this round, and shot from pole position to victory in a race punctuated by safety car periods.

“I’m very pleased with that, it’s a memorable result. The field here is full of very fast guys from all round the world so this is a great result. I can’t wait for race three now,” he said afterward.

Mardenborough made his first foray into TRS in 2013 and finished tenth overall, top rookie. He says he is now focussed on consistency, making sure he scores points in every race to maintain his championship challenge.

Martin Rump has provisionally retaken the championship lead with a five point advantage over Egor Orudzhev.
