Gilchrist and Gray to start from third row

Quallly 1 (940 x 450)

Brock Gilchrist and Rylan Gray will start an impressive sixth out of 29 cars in the first one hour race of the weekend at the ADAC GT4 Germany event at the Nürburgring.

Toyota 86 Champion Gilchrist did the qualifying run in the KCMG run GR Supra GT4 Evo and clocked a lap just 0.4 seconds off the pole position time of Aston Martin’s Hugo Sasse, a phenomenal performance in his first time at the track and first weekend in the car.

The top 14 qualifiers were covered by just a second in the highly competitive field, something the Toyota 86 aces are well accustomed to.

“I felt it went very well,” said brock afterwards. “You always feel in hindsight you can do more time in but we were only half a tenth away from fourth and really that’s pretty amazing  considering its our first time racing in Europe and my first time in the car and on the track. I’m very happy with that.

"The race is going to be interesting starting off P6. Hopefully we can make it through the first lap cleanly and if we can match the race pace we had yesterday consistently I think we could be strong.”

TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Motorsport Manager Nico Caillol said the performance was exceptional given the circumstances. “A top ten start was always the objective but it was a big challenge so to go sixth in qualifying in a high quality GT field and be the fastest Toyota is an outstanding drive by Brock.

“Both Brock and Rylan can be very pleased with how they are progressing in every session.

"They have been fast and totally professional in their approach. Everyone is now looking forward to seeing what they can achieve in the race.”

The first of two one hour races takes place later on Saturday and Gilchrist will start the race before handing over to Gray. The roles will be reversed for the second qualifying session and race on Sunday.
