Wood back in the groove for Round 2

Ryan (940 x 450)

The Best Bars Toyota 86 Championship swung back into action today with three practice sessions for the drivers on the Hampton Downs National circuit.

Setting a hot pace all day was Ryan Wood in the Wholesale Cars Direct TR86 and he topped all three sessions in impressive style as the drivers got back into the groove for qualifying and three races on Saturday as part of the annual TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Festival event.

Less than a week after the dramas of the New Zealand Grand Prix, winner Shane van Gisbergen was helping out championship leader Simon Evans and Giltrap Racing team mate Marco Giltrap. Brendon Leitch, meanwhile, was working closely with another potential contender for this year’s series, Rowan Shepherd. All three enjoyed a solid day of running with times consistently in the top five or six.

Another to go well was Brock Gilchrist in the CareVets car and he was Wood's closest challenger for most of the day.

Christina Orr-West managed to complete all three sessions for Dayle ITM Racing despite driving with a broken rib.
