Wood dominates Manfeild qualifying

Woody 2 (940 x 450)

Ryan Wood laid down a major marker for the weekend at Manfeild with a stunning pole position performance in qualifying for the third round of the Best Bars Toyota 86 Championship.

He needed just a couple of warm up laps before clocking a 1.20.383 lap and it stood for the rest of the session.

In a top ten covered by just over a second, his margin of more than three tenths of a second ahead of Rowan Shepherd was an impressive one.

“We wanted to set a benchmark early on and work from there," he said afterwards."We were doing that yesterday in practice and it seemed to work.

“I think there is always more in the car. But with the UV the track is getting a bit warm. We hit the peak of the tyre quite early but we are pretty strong pace wise regardless. It'll be interesting in the race to see what the draft does for people because it's definitely an opportunity here."

Ronan Murphy put in one of his best performances of the series so far with an eye-catching series of laps that netted third on the grid ahead of championship leader Simon Evans. Young gun Marco Giltrap lines up in fifth place on the grid with local boy Justin Allen completing the third row of the grid.

One of the Friday pace setters, Brock Gilchrist, starts a little further down the order than expected in seventh, while Christina Orr-West continues her weekend of improvement with seventh on the grid ahead of Alexandra Whitley. Todd Foster rounds out the top ten for the first race this afternoon.
