Cassidy instantly fast in first Toyota Finance 86 Championship Drive

Multiple Toyota Racing Series champion Nick Cassidy set the fastest time in the final Friday testsession at Teretonga as the fourth round of the 2014-2015 Toyota Finance 86 Championship moves toward qualifying and racing.

Cassidy posted a 1:07.388. He has taken over the #9 car of Marcus Armstrong and says his strategy for the weekend is simple: go out and win”.
It is the first time the TR86 race cars have competed on the fast Teretonga circuit near Invercargill, so a race lap record will be set over the three championship races of the weekend.

Behind Cassidy in the second Auckland City Toyota car, Tom Alexander set a 1:07.672. Alexander had set a faster time than Cassidy in the previous session, establishing a benchmark of 1:07.144. The leading five were all in the 1:07 bracket in that session, which was held in slightly cooler conditions.

In the third and final session session Ash Blewett in the West City car was third, also in the 1:07 bracket, with a 1:07.974.
Defending champion Jamie McNee is also on the pace. He was fourth in the final session.

Saturday’s on-track sessions begin with qualifying before the TR86 cars line up for their first race of the weekend. Teretonga’s long start straight and very first turn promise spectacular action when racing begins.
