Redesigned Corolla Sedan arrives

The new sedan range of the world’s best-selling car has arrived in New Zealand.

Showcasing a redesigned exterior, high quality interior and cargo capacity that will suit private and fleet buyers alike, the Corolla sedan range features four models including the premium grade ZR.

The Corolla sedan’s redrawn dimensions make for both a refreshed modern exterior and a roomier cabin. The new model is longer and wider, with an extended wheelbase and reduced rear overhang showcasing a sportier stance.

Joining the ever popular Corolla hatch and wagon, the new sedan features a restyled front end, with a lower bonnet line, headlights joined by a trademark chrome-plated strip running the width of the bonnet and strong accent lines that run the full length of the car.

Inside, the driving position has been re-designed for greater comfort, with adjustments to the steering column angle and 15mm more travel in the driver’s seat height function, allowing the driver to obtain the most suitable seating position.

This mid-size sedan showcases fantastic cargo capacity; a full 470 litres of available space which equates to four full size golf bags, all accessed more easily by 60:40 split rear folding seats. But the big news is in the rear, where thinner front seat backs and a near flat floor have created more leg and knee room for occupants, while head room has also increased.

Improved on road quietness has been achieved through the repositioning of sound proofing material. Insulation in the Corolla sedan’s bonnet structure reduces noise from the engine, and sound absorption material in the front guards noticeably reduces road noise.

As Toyota New Zealand’s General Manager of Product Planning Neeraj Lala suggests, the Corolla sedan represents the best of both worlds for a variety of business and private buyers.

“There’s a reason why Corolla has been Toyota’s number one selling car globally, with more than 43 million sold during its 48-year lifespan. It has the ability to be all things to many people, offering a practically sized vehicle for urban life, now with better passenger space and cargo capacity than ever before.

“These generous onboard dimensions, coupled with the Corolla sedan’s powerful and efficient 1.8 litre engine ensures it works as a practical and comfortable asset for private and business owners alike.”

The Corolla sedan line-up includes three grades.

The GX is available with either a six-speed manual or Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) gearbox option. The CVT features a 7-Speed Sport Sequential Manual Mode, acceleration and deceleration timing control and Flex Lock-up Control, which serves to enhance transmission efficiencies across different driving conditions in an effort to improve fuel efficiency.

Along with high quality fabric seats and soft touch trim, GX models also feature 15” wheels, Halogen headlights, LED tail lights and a full factory audio system boasting a 6.1” liquid crystal display, providing access to audio functions and trip fuel consumption data. The screen also acts as the display monitor for the standard reversing camera.

Additionally all Corolla sedans feature Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming and Voice Recognition software as standard, accessed via the multi-function steering wheel, which houses audio controls, display options for the Multi-Information Display (MID) screen in the instrument cluster and Cruise Control functions. All Corolla sedans also feature newly designed interior illumination, with stylish blue light back accent to switches and meters.

The Corolla GLX sedan has 16” alloys, front parking sensors and fog lights, a smart key system with a remote sensor, genuine leather wrapped steering wheel and gear knob, plus chrome accents and high grade instrumentation.

The range-topping ZR enjoys genuine leather seat facings (including a driver’s seat boasting eight-way power adjustment with power lumber support), automatic climate control air conditioning, a smart key system with push start, an alarm system and factory satellite navigation system with SUNA traffic channel all as standard. The ZR also features LED Daytime Running Lights and LED low beam headlights with Automatic Headlight Levelling functionality, as well as extra ornamentation including leather-like door trim, paddle shifters to access the CVT gearbox’s 7-Speed Sport Sequential Manual Mode.

All models are powered by 1.8-litre, 16 Valve DOHC petrol engines, with Dual Variable Valve Timing-intelligent (VVT-i). The Corolla sedan range achieves Euro 5 compliant C02 emissions of 162g/km for manual transmission and 153g/km for CVT variants. Boasting peak power of 103kW and maximum torque of 173Nm, the Corolla sedan’s four cylinder engine records combined fuel consumption of 7.0l/100km for manual transmission and 6.6-litres/100km for CVT.

The new Corolla sedan carries on the model’s traditional role as an ideal mid-size family car, with two ISOFIX child seat brackets, three tether anchor points across the rear parcel tray and child locks on the rear doors.

All grades have three-point ELR seatbelts in all seating positions and boast seven airbags including a driver’s front, front passenger’s, driver’s knee airbag, driver and front passenger seat-side and full cabin curtain shield airbags.

Active safety measures onboard include Anti-lock Braking (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Traction Control (TRC). The Corolla sedan also achieved the maximum ANCAP safety rating.

The modern, spacious Corolla sedan range is available at Toyota dealers nationwide now, with recommended selling prices starting at $33,490.
