Toyota Yaris hybrid transmission recall

Toyota New Zealand is recalling 513 vehicles due to a potential issue with the transmission input damper. The models affected are the Toyota Yaris Hatch and Cross manufactured between October 2019 and September 2020.  

This is a precautionary measure due to the potential for abnormal slippage of the transaxle damper when the driver accelerates rapidly. In the unlikely event this occurs, the vehicle’s warning lights will turn on and there is potential for the hybrid system to enter ‘fail safe’ mode.  

The repair will be completed free of charge by Toyota stores and will take approximately nine hours to complete.

Owners of the vehicles, which are traceable through registration data, will be contacted by Toyota New Zealand by letter.
