86 RC lets fans accessorise and customize like never before

Toyota has announced an innovative customisation programme for the new entry-level 86 RC (Race Competition) addition to the award-winning 86 line-up.

The latest addition to the growing 86 range gives Kiwi sports car fans the chance to create their own statement with a brand new Toyota 86 ready for customisation. Retailing exclusively online throughwww.the86.co.nz at an affordable internet-only base price of $33,986, customers can build their 86 RC within a virtual showroom, as well as utilise custom parts available through the Toyota dealer network and third party suppliers.

Choosing from an extensive range of colour options, sports decal profiles, factory TRD (Toyota Racing Development) performance components, body kit enhancements and instrumentation, the 86 RC gives Kiwi sports car fans the chance to customise and accessorise the car to individual tastes, creating a uniquely styled 86 unlike any other example on New Zealand roads.

Toyota New Zealand General Manager of Product Planning, Neeraj Lala says, "The 86 RC takes the accomplished rear wheel drive, 147kW performance platform of the 86, strips it back to the essentials and enables our customers to individualise and accessorise to their heart's content.

"Our online experience allows customers to control the process, giving them the opportunity to create their own personal brand statement."

Localised dealer options extend customer choice even further, with a range of performance tyres, alloys and other componentry available from a variety of Toyota approved suppliers.

Add this broad range of accessories to the selection of factory parts available within the virtual showroom, as well as performance components offered by myriad third party suppliers and combined, 86 RC customers really do have unlimited scope in creating their dream sports car.

While the base 86 RC arrives fitted with 16" machined graphite alloys, customers can choose from a variety of 18" alloy options, depending on which tyre and brake package is opted for: Bridgestone Potenza RE002 Adrenalin or Michelin Pilot Sport 3 tyres are available, along with a TRD brake package.

Further chassis and drive train enhancements can be specified within the innovative 86 RC virtual showroom, including TRD chassis bracing, a TRD suspension set featuring adjustable shock absorbers, as well as a Torsen limited slip differential and TRD exhaust kit.

The ability for 86 RC customers to individualise their car to reflect their own style really comes into its own when contemplating the huge array of paint options available for bumpers, spoilers, side skirts, mirror covers and door handles. Additionally there are three separate decal themes to choose from online. Further exterior enhancements are available in the form of an 86 RC aero pack consisting of front and rear spoilers and side skirts, giving the car a suitably aggressive look.

Toyota acknowledges that many 86 RC fans will opt for their own choice of audio hardware, or alternatively, there is also a TRD sports meter kit available, which sits where the stereo would normally be housed. This package provides the driver with oil pressure/temperature and coolant temperature information, while customers can also choose to upgrade to a GT86 combination meter for the 86 RC's instrument cluster.

In addition to the many feature packages available, customers can also opt to add a variety of stand-alone TRD accessories, such as a fuel filler cap, radiator cap, oil filter, sports air filter or shift knob.

Performance specialists, stylists and sports car fans eager to see what is achievable with the 86 RC can choose from the full range of TRD and locally developed custom performance accessories with the full backing of Toyota's extensive dealer network and top quality after-sales support.

"The way in which 86 RC customers can specify their car through our virtual showroom is very innovative," continues Lala. "We also see it as integrating the expectations tech-savvy customers increasingly have when they're researching and evaluating options for their vehicle of choice, with the top quality levels of service and back-up customers expect from our established dealer network."
