Toyota's new Prado has successfully combined legendary toughness with a high level of passenger comfort and equipment levels.
Toyota has successfully packaged Prado's on and off road capabilities into a user friendly, mid-size body. This ensures its practicality for tight parking spaces and agility around town, as well as easy manoeuvring in off road conditions.
Connectivity is at the heart of new Prado's entertainment system.
All models feature a 3.5mm auxiliary input jack and USB input for the connection of portable audio devices. There is also Bluetooth handsfree compatibility for wireless connection to compatible mobile phones and portable MP3 players.
Portable MP3 players can also be recharged while connected to the USB jack, giving you hours of audio playback without draining the batteries.
Portable music players with a Bluetooth function can be used with Prado GX and VX models, letting you play your favourite songs without any cables.
All new Prado models offer Bluetooth handsfree phone connection when used with a compatible mobile phone.
Audio and Bluetooth controls are available on the steering wheel for all models, as is a voice recognition function for use with telephones that support voice dialling.
Prado GX's six speaker audio system features a single disc MP3/WMA compatible CD player for hours of playback from a single CD.
VX has a nine speaker system with six-disc CD changer.
VX Limited has a premium quality Pioneer surround sound 14 speaker system with CD/DVD changer, fully integrated 7" touch screen system and satellite navigation.
Prado VX Limited's DVD based satellite navigation covers over 99% of New Zealand with various points of interest and thousands of addresses pre-loaded.
For off road use, Prado's satellite navigation system can search for destinations based on latitude and longitude coordinates and can even mark the area you have travelled so you can return via the same path.
For the first time in a Prado model, a rear seat entertainment system is also included in the VX Limited, allowing rear seat passengers the flexibility to watch DVD movies or use portable game consoles.
Using a remote control, rear seat passengers can control their own entertainment options. The roof mounted 9" VGA monitor is tilt adjustable and sound can be played either through the vehicle's speaker system or headphones.
New Prado VX and VX Limited have three zone climate control air conditioning as standard equipment, with temperature sensors front and rear.
It provides independent temperature control for the area around the driver's seat and front passenger's seat, and a separate climate controlled rear air conditioning system.
The dual zone front air conditioning system in VX and VX Limited has push button controls and uses the multi-information or EMV display screen.
The rear climate control system has push button controls and an LCD display.
Prado GX has dual zone manual air conditioning, allowing the driver and rear passengers to set their preferred temperature.
All new Prado models have a reversing camera and reverse parking sensors. VX and VX Limited models have additional cameras to provide a front and side view of the vehicle, as well as front parking sensors.
All new Prado models have a smart entry and start system that allows the driver to lock, unlock and start the vehicle without using the ignition key or transmitter button.
The system detects the key when it is within proximity of the vehicle.
This feature is especially useful when carrying items to the vehicle.
All the driver needs is one hand free to touch the inside of the front door handle while having their keys in their pocket, and the door will open.
Alternatively, when the driver presses the lock switch on the front door handle, the vehicle is automatically locked.
The tailgate can be opened with the press of the release button on the tailgate.
Once inside Prado, depressing the brake pedal and pressing the dashboard mounted start button will enable the vehicle to be started without using an ignition key.
For security against theft, all models have an engine immobiliser and alarm system.
VX and VX Limited both have leather trim as standard and full electric seat adjustment, with memory functions for the VX Limited. GX is specified with manual adjustments and cloth seat trim.
Front seat heaters are standard for VX and VX Limited models.
All models have a seven person seating capacity.
The second row seats in new Prado have a 60:40 split with slide, recline and walk-in functions. Third row seats are split 50:50 and fold down into the rear floor.
Third row seats are power folding for VX and VX Limited models.
Second row seats feature a one-touch fold flat feature to increase carrying capacity.
A manual rear seat slide is standard in all grades, allowing 135mm of adjustment.
There are a number of storage locations in Prado, including a push open console cup holder, and a storage space for glasses located in the overhead console.
Utility space has been enhanced by incorporating bottle holders with pockets in the front and rear door pockets.
There's also a conversation mirror built into the overhead console, making it safe and easy for the driver to keep an eye on rear seat passengers while driving.
With all rear seats stored, new Prado can carry up to 1,833 litres of luggage.
VX and VX Limited models feature an electrochromatic inside rear view mirror which automatically adjusts to reduce the blinding glare of following drivers' headlights.
These models also have rain-sensing windscreen wipers.
12V accessory power outlets are easily accessible to front and second row rear passengers while a handy 220V AC conventional power outlet is found in the luggage compartment.
For VX and VX Limited models there is a top-hinged glass tailgate hatch. Unlocked using the smart key system and operable with one hand, this hatch gives access to the vehicle's load space even in tight spaces where it would be difficult to fully open the tailgate.
The side hinged back door opens to the right hand side, helping to shield you from traffic while loading or unloading the vehicle. There's also a handy stopper mechanism which holds Prado's back door open with no risk of it being accidentally pushed shut.
