Active Traction Control Driver Information

The computer that controls the A-TRC system flashes the Active TRC light in the combination meter to inform the driver that A-TRC control is being provided to the wheel that is spinning. The Active TRC light indicates which wheel is being controlled. If a fault occurs in the Active TRC system, the Active TRC warning light illuminates to alert the driver and the Active TRC system is deactivated. If the temperature of the brake actuator for the Active TRC rises excessively while the Active TRC is operating, the buzzer sounds to alert the driver and the Active TRC system stops temporarily to protect the brake actuator.

The A-TRC indicator light flashes on the wheel to which control is affected.

The Final Analysis

Field testing of these features by the Toyota New Zealand product team and motoring journalists has shown that this system is not just a ‘gimmick’. It is in fact a huge advance in vehicle safety and performance that provides the customer with a great deal of added value. The A-TRC offers even a novice off-roader a vehicle with improved drivability and confidence in being able to negotiate situations of slippery or rough terrain that would otherwise be difficult without specialised 4WD equipment or techniques.
