New Zealand has updated its vehicle exhaust emissions regulations, and from 1st of December 2025 all newly produced vehicles must meet a higher vehicle exhaust emissions standard known as Euro 6D. To meet this requirement, new Toyota models are fitted with a Gasoline Particulate Filter (GPF), which plays an important role in reducing vehicle exhaust emissions. For the GPF to work at its optimal performance, and to ensure your engine delivers the required emissions reductions these vehicles now require 95 octane or higher fuel.
Euro 6D is a modern European emissions standard that sets strict limits on pollutants from new vehicles. It’s designed to ensure vehicles meet very low pollutant limits in both laboratory and real‑world driving conditions.
The reduction in total system output is also linked to the new Euro 6D or above emissions requirements that came into effect from the 1st of December 2025. Meeting this higher standard involves additional emissions reduction technology, which can influence overall power output.
